Progress in FAIR Data Points

Created on:

February 24, 2025

The LUMC’s ambition to make data FAIR (Findable, Accessible under well-defined conditions, Interoperable, and Reusable) has led to the creation of a FAIR Data Point.

This initiative is a result of collaboration between Prof. Dr. Meta Roestenberg and Prof. Dr. Mirjam van Reisen. The FAIR Data Point showcases the results of Roestenberg’s clinical study and outlines how this data can be made available for reuse (Controlled Human Schistosomiasis Mansoni Infection). A certificate can be obtained to query the data, ensuring it meets all the requirements of FAIR Open Science.

Another collaboration of Prof. Dr. Mirjam van Reisen with Prof. Dr. Thomas van den Akker has secured seed money to explore how FAIR data techniques can be used for secure and privacy-preserving methods to handle patient data (AHDS Ante-Natal Care Programme) The objective is to analyze this data to assist doctors in making informed decisions in health clinics. This seed money was provided by Leiden University through the Universities Global Fund.

Additionally, LUMC and LIACS at Leiden University will organize a hackathon for Data FAIRification together with European Universities Alliance UNA Europa. This event brings together PhD students from European universities for a workshop focused on making scientific data FAIR.

The hackathon will be accompanied by an international conference on ‘Prospects and Applications of Linked Data Spaces’, to be held in Leiden from April 24-25. Registration for participation is open. For more details, visit here.
